The importance of a religion is shown through its places of worship
As someone who grew up in the west and has never really gotten in touch with Islam or its architecture, the many mosques scattered throughout Istanbul were quite something. The beauty of these houses of worship stunned me more than once. The attention to detail, beautiful tiling and writings drew me in constantly to photograph, stand still and see Islam in a very different light than what we’ve been fed these last years.
Daily life
As a traveller you have the unique experience of seeing daily life from an outside perspective
You get to see the hustle and bustle of a city waking up and going about its day. You also get to romanticise the mundane; reading the paper on the way home, going grocery shopping, having a chat with neighbours and friends.
Since you’re drawn away from this life for a short time, you can really appreciate these smaller things in life through others and hope to God that you take this thought back home.
